THE PREMIUM SCHOOLS
This is a remarkable book on the heritage schools in Nigeria, over the years, written by Seye Adetunmbi, a serial author. The book was published by Mindscope Africa and it was formally presented to the public on July 21st, 2022 and now available on Amazon in e-book, paper back and hardcover.
The historical publication has generated healthy debate in some quarters. This is why the author has dedicated a page in his blog for the book, on the subject matter, of the need to restore the good old schools consequent to the degenerated state of the education sector in Nigeria. In order to tackle the daunting task, it is imperative to put the into perspective, where we were coming from (what made the quality of primary and secondary education high in the government/public schools of old), where we are now and what the future holds if there is definite intervention to fix the education sector in Nigeria.
The premium schools of old that we celebrate today didn't fall from heaven, neither did they come out of the blue. The establishment of the schools were planned and the progress was closely monitored by the founders and promoters of the heritage schools as well as the committed well educated teachers and seasoned administrators who sustained the legacies over the years.
The driving motive then was not money for the school proprietors, teachers and other stakeholders but to primarily produce well educated and cultured students that will carry banner of excellence to everywhere they go. Some of the founders and pioneer teachers of these schools left their comfort zones to plant legacy schools.
Those are the values that need to be restored in our education sector in Nigeria. However, this may not be achievable until we get the leadership right at all tiers of government. Paradigm shift in the system becomes inevitable for restoration to be accomplished.
This blog wants intellectuals and other well meaning Nigerians to interrogate the issues and summary of discussions here and highlights of the thoughts shared here for implementation will be packaged as an addendum to the next edition of the this book on premium schools in Nigeria.
