CHIEF KAYODE ADETUNMBI: A Distinguished Retired Sheriff and a Gentleman

It is a feat to rise through the ranks in the Nigerian Police Force, stay at the top with a commendable record of service, and finish well on retirement. For any police officer to have served in the South Eastern part of Nigeria, earned the respect of the community to the extent of being honoured with an ogbuefi title and yet remained on good standing with the police authority, it points to one thing, it is the grace of God abounding in his life as a remarkable man of destiny that providence had positioned for greatness. His accomplishments underscore his professional disposition as a disciplined cop with huge native intelligence and innate inclination to honourable ways. At various times, he served as the Head of SARS in Ekiti Police Command, DPO of many police stations in Ekiti, Eastern part of Nigeria, Maiduguri, Makurdi, Taraba and Benue-State.
Chief Kayode Adetunmbi psc, was born on the 22nd of November 1952. He is a product of Aiyede Grammar School; All Saints Teachers’ College, Usi-Ekiti; Federal Advanced Teachers’ College, Okene and University of Ilorin where he obtained first degree in Physical and Heath Education in 1987. He bagged a postgraduate diploma in education from the University of Calabar in Cross-River State; M.Ed. Psychology from Abia State University and Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management. University of Maiduguri. He is set to bag a PhD. in Public Health Education from the University of Makurdi. To up his knowledge on intelligence and security, he attended an Institute of Associate of the Global Intelligence, Peace and Security in the United States of America in 2020.
He started working as an auxiliary teacher at St. John Primary School, Ora-Ekiti, and later worked at the Teachers’ College, Egbe in Kogi-State. In 1988, he was recruited into the Nigeria Police Force and was promoted to the rank of a sergeant subsequent to writing for an upgrade based on his university qualification. After passing through the Graduate Conversion Induction Course in 1991, he was commissioned to the officer cadre with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police. His postings in the Nigeria Police Force include Kwara State Command: Operation SHQ, Police Training School, Divisional Crime; Akwa-Ibom State Command: P and G - Etima, P and G - Oron; Abia-State Command: Homicide, States CID, DCO, DPO, SARS - Umahia, Isia Osisiomo; Ekiti State Command: DOPS, SARS – Ado Central, Igede, Otun, Oke-Ila; Kogi State Command: Area Commander – Ajaokuta; Borno Stae Command: Assistant Commissioner of Police DOPS – Maiduguri; Taraba State Command: Area Commander - Gembu, Sadauna LGA; Zone-6 Admin Officer, X-Squad, Calabar; Zone-4 Makurdi as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration and Police Staff College – Directing Staff in Jos Plateau State.

The Enyi Di Oha Uma1 of Ndume Ibeku, Umahia, is an honorary chief of Oloje-Ekiti and the Fiwajoye of Oke-Opin, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara-State. In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Chief Kayode Adetunmbi was joined by family members, relations, school mates and friends to give thanks to God on his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police, today, Sunday, December 11, 2022 at St John Anglican Church, Oke-Opin.
He retired after a meritorious service on this rank 
It must be noted that while in the service as a police officer, by nature and professional disposition, he was not inclined to influencing his postings, he took every posting in good faith and carried his duties conscientiously. In the end, his good works and diligence made him stand out and often took away an additional academic certificate. To the glory of God, he finished well and retired gracefully. He has since dedicated his post-retirement time to community socio-economic development initiatives, and God's work in his parish where he was installed in 2023 the Baba-Egbe Aya Bishop at St. John's Anglican Church, Oke-Opin in Kwara-State.
